Our Sunset Necklace is made with natural Jersey Ormer Shell, set in solid sterling silver (with rhodium plating) with 5 small Cubic Zirconia stones. Inspired by the amazing Jersey sunsets, with the sun glistening on the rolling waves. Jersey Ormer is the unique natural shell from Jersey Channel Island, drawn by their exquisite appearance, islanders have been collecting them for tens of thousands of years. Natural shells as beautiful as Ormer Shell may well be the original collected objects — the prehistoric predecessors to diamonds and gold. The oldest examples of jewelry ever found, dating back as early as 100,000 years, were made of cowries and other shells. As time went on, cowries became symbols of power and a form of currency. European explorers filled their curio cabinets with the creatures. Today, collectors search the tropics in search of ever-rarer and more perfect specimens. Rhodium-plated silver is fine sterling silver that is polished and dipped in rhodium. It has a bright finish, similar to white gold items, and it doesn’t tarnish.
