Opal is arguably the most unique, diverse, and beautiful birthstone. Unlike most gemstones, opal is amorphous which means it does not have a defined crystalline structure. It takes on many shapes and colors and in that way, it is pretty unpredictable. Opals rank 5.5 to 6.5 out of 10 on Mohs Scale of Hardness. They are certainly more fragile than the other birthstones, so you do need to be careful with them. However, with proper care, they should hold up well. Our opal has been grown and treated in the lab to enhance its harness, making them extra durable for daily wear and tear. Rhodium-plated silver is fine sterling silver that is polished and dipped in rhodium. It has a bright finish, similar to white gold items, and it doesn’t tarnish. These are lab grown gemstones using heat and pressure to recreate the same condition like how natural gemstones mined from underground grown over millions of years. They have very similar look to natural gemstones but have been treated to remove the inclusions inside the stone.
