Amazing technology inside these Meta AI Oakley HSTN Glasses This is the first pair of Oakley glasses I’ve ever tried and this is the Meta HSTN version with builtin Meta AI creating a “Performance AI” product aimed at athletes and fans. – Meta is the new name for the company behind Facebook- AI (Artificial Intelligence) is the technology builtin the glasses and the Meta AI app on your phone- HSTN is an Oakley lifestyle frame styleWhat you get in the box:- Charging case for the glasses- A pair of HSTN Meta AI glasses- Cleaning Cloth- Get Started Booklet- Safety & Warranty bookletThe Glasses have a builtin 12MP camera, microphone, open-ear speakers, battery with 8 hours of typical usage and 32 GB of internal storage. The case has a builtin battery with 48 hours of on the go charging capacity for the Glasses, a USB-C charging port, a control button and a LED Battery level light. Also, when going outside in the sun, they transform into sunglasses.Getting Started:First scan a QR code to get started, which will open the app store or play store to download and install the Meta AI app.Charge the case before use, with a USB-C Cable and USB-C Power Adapter, both not included.Once LED Battery light is green, case is fully charged. You can then open the case, and wear the Glasses and begin the setup process of the Glasses and the Meta AI app, as both work together, so the app will need to be configured first.Ideally, setup 2 networks, one WiFi when you are at home and a WiFi Hotspot on your phone, this way you will always have a network available for the glasses.Basic commands are available on the Glasses to take photos and record videos, control a configured music streaming service to play/pause/next/back/volume /-, take calls etc.You can also use hands free voice commands (this is the Meta AI feature) to do all of the above to control the glasses, but where it gets really interesting is when you start using the Meta AI to the full extent and do things you would normally do with your phone such as, look up information online, make a note (this is called a reminder), take photos and videos and send any of these to someone in a messaging app etc.You can be walking down the street and just say “Hey Meta” take photo and send to someone and it will do this, same with a video or say “Hey Meta” record voice message and then send to someone, all with simple voice commands.Photos and videos are saved in the internal storage of the glasses and later imported to the Meta AI app for AI processing and/or saving.Note: The AI processing is a cool feature that transforms your photos and videos using AI to create fun photos. You can listen to music from a streaming service and control everything with your voice, totally hands free. Ask to play an album, song or a playlist. You can ask Meta AI to read a book and it will do so if the audible app is installed.Note: The current apps supported by Meta AI are, Spotify, Amazon Music, Apple Music, Audible and Shazam and all require a valid subscription to properly work with the glasses, but Shazam works free of charge. But it gets better, you can ask Meta AI questions and it will do its best to answer correctly totally hands free, just be precise and patient when asking questions. So I had fun asking Meta AI to take a photo and tell me what it was (didn’t always get good answers), remind me of something in 3 hours, or send a message to someone while I’m driving. When I want to explain something visually to someone, I can take hands free photos and videos and explain what I’m doing, as I’m doing it and send it to someone instantly. There is also a translation feature where you can ask Meta AI to translate two languages live (need to pre-install languages first). For example, when you speak in English, the words appear in the Meta AI app, and are translated in the second language, the other person reads and replies, the text appears in the Meta AI app, but you also hear the translation in the Glasses, so on and so forth, as the conversation goes, it just takes practice to understand how it works.A Talk feature, in an experimental phase, allows you to talk to Meta AI and have it reply back with answers in a fluid conversational manner, as if you are having a conversation with someone who is explaining something to you. It works quite well, and is an interesting feature to try.The uses are endless and will only get better as the Meta AI improves. But is it perfect, NO.The Meta AI still needs a-lot of work to maintain a history of questions asked in a conversation and follow thru with responses. Too many times I’ve asked questions, had a response from Meta AI and then continue my questions and the first response is not stored and re-used to continue the conversation. I think it will take time for me to learn how to properly interact and let Meta AI do its thing with the capacity it has. It’s unable to interact with apps it’s not designed to work with or modify things in apps it is designed to work with, for example, I can’t ask Meta AI to create or edit a playlist in Spotify, I must do this manually in the app. I can’t ask it to create or modify a note in my notes app, I must vocally save reminders with Meta AI.Sometimes it doesn’t know the answer, doesn’t understand a question or gives a wrong answer to a question. It’s a learning process for users and Meta AI as well.So as long as you use the Glasses and Meta AI to it’s current capacity, it is a fun and learning experience to do things differently, and gives you freedom that you wouldn’t normally have by physically interacting with a phone.Note: When recording videos (1080P or 3K) frames are limited to 30FPS, and I noticed that the format is fixed to a portrait mode, ideal for posting on social media platforms and not landscape mode which I could want to use elsewhere.I can see myself doing various activities outside and have the ability to take photos and videos instantly, record messages, save reminders and listen to music in the background and still hear what’s happening around me and all of this hands free.Note: It can be challenging to use in noisy environments. The Glasses can also provide visually impaired users with the ability to have access to online information with Meta AI, listen to music, send voice messages etc.I’m sure I can find different and interesting ways to use the Glasses on a daily basis and will discover this overtime. The one thing that is a problem for me is wearing the glasses on top of prescription glasses that I must wear to see properly. I created an account on the Oakley website and noticed while browsing that Oakley offers the possibility of changing the lenses for prescription lenses, so I’ll have to see how I can do this.I included a bunch of Meta AI generated images of myself, simply telling the Meta AI app what I wanted using my face as an example. Images generate in less than 15 seconds.Safety & Warranty booklet contents- FCC Compliance Statement- FCC RF Exposure Information (SAR)- ISED compliance statement- ISED Radiation Exposure Statement- EU and Great Britain compliance statement- Safety certification for the Product’s batteries- Battery disposal & WEEE information- Warranty is 1 year from date of purchase, and 2 years if purchased in EU or EFTA countries- Registration is not required to receive warranty 5 people found this helpful
